Healthy Holidays and Thankful Hearts This Thanksgiving
What are you looking forward to most this Thanksgiving?
Maybe it’s making the recipe everyone asks you to bring. Perhaps it’s the football game, a house full of family, or a grandchild pulling on your hand and saying, “Come play!”
When we think about healthy holidays, those are the moments that come to mind.
In our family, we look forward to cooking together, watching football, and spending time with the people we love. There’s something special about a kitchen full of conversation and a day that gives everyone a reason to gather.
So, what’s on your Thanksgiving wish list this year? Whatever you’re hoping to enjoy, here are a few ways to take care of yourself along the way.

For the One Who Always Does the Cooking
You know who you are. You know which dish goes in the oven first, where the serving spoons belong, and exactly how someone will react if their favorite side is missing.
But between chopping, stirring, lifting, and cleaning, it’s easy to spend hours on your feet before you ever sit down to eat.
This year, give yourself a place on the list of people you’re taking care of.
Pull up a chair for some of the prep work. Keep frequently used ingredients within easy reach. Split heavy dishes into smaller containers when practical, and ask someone to help carry the turkey.
Most of all, let the family help. Cooking together is one of our favorite parts of Thanksgiving—and there’s usually a job for someone who wanders into the kitchen asking when dinner will be ready!
For the Family’s Biggest Football Fan
The food is ready, your favorite seat is waiting, and kickoff is almost here.
Enjoy the game. Just give yourself a few chances to change positions along the way.
Commercial breaks and halftime are good reminders to stand up, walk around, or check on everyone in the kitchen. If you’re driving to see family, build in stops where you can safely get out and move.
You could also invite the family outside for a comfortable walk. It’s another chance to catch up with someone you haven’t seen in a while.
The CDC’s guide to the benefits of physical activity explains how regular movement supports sleep, weight management, and the ability to do everyday activities.
Choose movement that fits your abilities, and ask for guidance if pain is limiting you.
For the Grandparent Who Wants to Join the Fun
Sometimes the best invitation of the day comes from the smallest person in the room.
“Will you play with me?”
That might mean getting down on the floor, heading outside, or joining a game at the table. When your back or neck hurts, even something you’re excited to do can take extra thought.
Make the activity work for you. Bring the game to a comfortable table, take breaks, or choose something you can enjoy together without aggravating your symptoms.
However, if you regularly find yourself sitting out because of pain, consider having it evaluated. You can read more in our article about why chronic pain isn’t just part of getting older.
At White Rock Chiropractic, we want to understand what discomfort is keeping you from doing. Knowing what matters to you helps us discuss care and next steps around your everyday goals.
For Anyone Working Toward a Healthier Weight
Thanksgiving can bring a little extra uncertainty when you’re working on your weight.
How do you enjoy the foods you look forward to while keeping your goals in mind?
Start by giving yourself room to enjoy the occasion thoughtfully. Choose the foods you truly want, take your time eating, and pay attention to when you feel comfortably satisfied.
You don’t have to turn dinner into a discussion about your weight. Enjoy the people at the table, too.
Afterward, return to the habits and guidance that support your individual plan. If you’re following a prescribed treatment plan, ask your prescribing clinician about any questions specific to your medication or meals.
At White Rock Weight Loss, we welcome questions about getting started and navigating your goals. Healthy holidays are a good time to think about the support that would be useful to you.

What Would You Like to Enjoy More This Season?
Perhaps your wish is simple: finish cooking without being so uncomfortable, enjoy the drive to visit family, or say yes when someone asks you to join in.
Those everyday goals matter.
